
Meet Marisol Cortez
Community Leader | City Councilwoman
Councilmember Marisol Cortez was born in Los Angeles and was raised in El Monte. Along with her parents and six siblings, she is deeply entrenched, committed, and invested in the El Monte community. Her parents are immigrants from Mexico and started a family business providing tire services. At a young age, her parents introduced her to the business operation and the value of keeping a tight-knit community.
After graduating from Mountain View High School, Councilmember Cortez attended Pasadena City College to earn an AA degree and then transferred to California State University Long Beach, where she graduated with a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting and International Business. Currently, Marisol, in addition to supporting her family business, leads the Temple City Unified School District’s Food Services Department operation and manages the meal program for eight district schools, providing 4,000 meals daily to students.
Marisol also devotes her time to engaging, supporting, and mentoring other women in leadership and is on the board of the National Latina Business Women Association, and the California State University Long Beach Students for Professional Development Junior Mentoring Program, where she provides guidance to first generation and transfer students on graduation and career goals.
